Botswana Housing Corporation (BHC) acting chief executive officer, Mr Nkaelang Matenge says it is their responsibility to assist government to provider security, comfort and support to the disadvantaged.
Mr Matenge said this during a handover of Christmas gifts to Bamalete Lutheran Hospital’s pediatric ward on Wednesday, December 5.
“We become even more charged, when we realise that our assistance is needed in areas that deal with ill children, as we remain hopeful that they will recover from their illnesses and become responsible future leaders of this country”.
However, he added that the BHC mandate remains providing housing and shelter to Batswana in general. He said as they execute their mandate, they realise that the government needs assistance in addressing some societal problems and challenges. Mr Matenge said the corporation has a social responsibility policy through which they extend financial assistance and support to deserving organisations.
He said over the years, the organisation has undertaken numerous initiatives of a similar magnitude in hospitals across the country with a particular focus on the pediatric section. Apart from hospitals, he said they have been donating to the Masiela Trust Fund and SOS and he further called other organisations to join hands in caring for the needy. Bamalete Lutheran Hospital official, Dr Juraima Mubaiwa commended the corporation for their gesture, and encouraged other stakeholders to emulate BHC.
He said pediatric ward consists of thirty beds, adding that unlike other district hospitals, they have a resident pediatrician who is always available. Dr Mubaiwa said as a hospital that makes at least 2000 deliveries per year, a well equipped pediatric unit will go a long way in complementing such efforts.
BHC donated two television sets, nebulizers and toys totalling P30 000 to the pediatric ward of the hospital. ENDS
