OAIC establishes Nhabe sub-chapter
04 Dec 2013
The Organisation of African Instituted Churches (OAIC) has established Nhabe sub-chapter.
On behalf of Batawana paramount chief, the guest speaker, Kgosi Prince Shashe said at a capacity building workshop in Maun recently that the undertaking would bring services to churches at district level to assist them in adhering to national calls and working together with one voice.
He said churches’ affiliation with any of the three recognised organisations in Botswana, OAIC, Botswana Council of Churches (BCC) and Evangelical Fellowship of Botswana (EFB) would enable churches to have good administration to coordinate national activities undertaken by the umbrella organization.
Kgosi Shashe said currently, presidents of OAIC and EFB were members of the taskforce together with the department of Tribal Administration for the implementation of the approved recommendation of the Presidential Commission on social values held by Dikgosi and Baruti from BCC.
He said it showed unity and therefore a great achievement, which as part of the leadership in the district, they were thankful for. Furthermore, he commended OAIC for their continued support in the fight against HIV and AIDS and many other undertakings they have done as a service to the country.
For his part, OAIC - Botswana Chapter president Reverend Phillimon Motlhagodi said OAIC was not absorbing any church but rather to act as a coordinating office. He said their mandate was to come together as a body of Christ to preach the Gospel and address social ills and serve the community having a common understanding of leadership.
“We have realised that there are misconceptions about the procedures of managing our churches which soon after cause disputes in the church”, he said. He said with the establishment on the Nhabe sub-chapter, they would aid church leaders with the necessary skills to manage, lead, advance and most importantly work towards building the arch of God with the Gospel message.
Rev Motlhagodi said they were actively involved with the tuberculosis control advocacy, communication and social mobilisation strategy, Botswana national palliative care strategy, safe male circumcision, Tsosoloso testing campaign and counseling, national condom strategy and implementation plan.
He said the Nhabe sub-chapter elections were fair with Rev Hitler Kanyetu elected chairperson, while the vice chairperson seat went to Kenny Kolatau and Malebogo Bogotsi as secretary, Lesego Bogotsa as vice secretary, Nthobogang Bonnelo as treasurer, with five other members making up the committee.
