Private organisations and the public have been implored to increase donations towards schools to ensure that no child is left behind in achieving prosperity for all.
Such contributions have shown to be fruitful. They also enhanced learning.
Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, Ms Nnaniki Makwinja said on October 20, when Debswana and its business partners handed over porta cabins, printing cartridges and combination of hydro coop and hydroponics structure to Machana Primary School.
Ms Makwinja applauded Debswana and its business partners for the noble gesture, saying it was always encouraging when the business society gave back to their communities.
She said the ministry was highly appreciative of institutions and individuals that responded to their calls and offered support.
“With the donations made here today, we are confident and certain that the children, our dear beneficiaries, will be able to enjoy their education journey and be reminded that there is hope out there and a possibility of a better future.”
Ms Makwinja commended the Cowburn Company for donating a porta cabin, which would help police bring the services closer to the affected communities, enabling them to react swiftly to calls for police assistance.
She said this was a form of support towards the government’s efforts to address challenges brought about by crime.
The cabins, which would be manned by both members of the community and police officers, would also house kgosi.
She also extended gratitude to Kalcon Company for donating a porta cabin to Machana Primary School for a teacher’s accommodation.
Rotsdrill Exploration donated a combination of Hydro coop and hydroponic structure, and the module system has the capacity to raise 120 broiler chickens and 180 vegetable plants.
Ms Makwinja noted that with such donations, Machana could become a fully-fledged vocational school without any child left behind as the country advanced towards achieving prosperity for all and breaking chains of poverty.
“Machana community, I urge you to jealously guard projects these learners are going to engage in through this great resource and ensure they maximise their learning. Keep encouraging them to work hard on their studies, ka gore motse o tlhabololwa ke bana ba one.”
For her part, area MP, also Minister of Entrepreneurship, Mr Karabo Gare urged the companies to utilise his ministry because it had been established for their businesses.
He said this would help their companies to grow and be able to continue helping more Batswana.
Senior Mineral Resources Manager for Debswana Jwaneng Mine, Mr Emmanuel Boiteto explained that the mine leadership decided to adopt villages to support human, economic and social development.
He noted that the Mineral Resources Management was assigned Machana village to address the vulnerabilities unearthed by the study.
The business partners identified a great need in education and crime prevention projects, hence the donations made to Machana Primary School and kgotla. ENDS
