Family strengthen nation

03 Dec 2013

The Assistant Minister of Health, Mr Gaotlhaetse Matlhabaphiri says family contributes to the status of the country.

Mr Matlhabaphiri said the strength of the family was the strength of the nation, but he raised a concern about the number of divorces in Botswana. He was a speaking at an event dubbed Family Sunday 2013.

The event was organised by Family of God Church in Molepolole.

Mr Matlhabaphiri said strengthening families spiritually was vital as they came closer to one another and urged other churches to copy such programme from Family of God church.

The church donated P10 000 to Bana Ba Keletso Orphanage Centre and P1 000 for Christmas groceries to one of the church members, Ms Mokununu Thakadu of Magokotswane ward in Molepolole.

“The bible says blessed is the hand that gives than the one that receives. Sometimes when you give is not that you have in abundance, but because you have the spirit of sharing and caring instilled in you,” Mr Matlhabaphiri said.

Speaking at the occasion Bishop Seamogetswe Keoleletse of Family of God Church, said righteousness brought peace, stating that a family that did not serve God was distracted by sin.

“Let us be seekers of righteousness so that there be peace amongst us. The bible in Mathew 6: 33 says seek first the kingdom of God and all shall be added unto you. If we serve God in truth and in spirit, we shall have peace in our marriages and the rate of divorce shall decline,” Bishop Seamogetswe added.

Bishop Seamogetswe further encouraged the married couples to refrain from going to bed with unsolved issues and discouraged them from seeking revenge.

“As a couple you can’t do things to fix one another. I can’t deny that there fights, we fight because we are human but the important thing is how you tackle your problem. Always make sure that you cease war, put down the weapons of mass destruction and let God take control, for righteousness brings quietness and peace,” Bishop Seamogetswe explained.

In an interview, the Supervisor at  Bana Ba Keletso Orphanage, Ms Mpho Mokone said currently the orphanage has 25 children aged between two  to six years old.
Ms Mokone said since the establishment of the centre in 1999 they have been helping children between the ages of two  to 18 years old, of which those who attended school would be picked by a bus to the centre every after school.

“The main aim for school going ones was to teach them life skills and help them with their home works. We have since stopped because of financial constraints, ” Ms Mokone said. Ends
