Artiste Girly-o-dibody on revamping her career

07 Sep 2023

Girly-o-Dibody is on a mission to become one of the top female rappers in the country.

Born Botshelo Mosweu, Girly is currently revamping her music brand to suit her aspirations in the industry.

She shared with BOPA in an interview that she had started off by hiring a manager whom she believed would help her secure partnerships with brands that could enhance her value.

Girly expressed no doubt that her manager Leago Mogano would drive her vision since she had experienced the benefits of working with him.

“This arrangement enables me to devote my energy to creating music.

I firmly believe in myself, and Mogano believes in me as well. His expertise as a qualified entrepreneur has the potential to greatly contribute to the growth of my brand,” she said.

She said she realised the importance of having a manager, especially in the new era of social media, where artistes have more opportunities than ever before to connect directly with their fans who play a major role in influencing artistes’ careers.

She said while social media platforms could be time-consuming, in the end denying artistes more time to focus on their craft, managers on the other hand could handle the day-to-day tasks of maintaining the presence of artistes online.

“Managers can help artistes navigate the complex landscape of social media and devise plans to maximise their reach and engagement.

This helps to avoid unnecessary conversations that can cost artistes their dignity,” she said.

The up-coming artiste gained popularity through her hit single Girly-o-Dibody after it received an overwhelming response from her fans.

She is also enjoying her recent accomplishment of winning the Best Female Single and Best Newcomer awards during the 2021 Yaroma FM Music Awards.

The 32-year-old artiste revealed that she was working on a few tracks and striving to improve their sound combination.

She expressed her desire to release something new from her team in December.

She said her dreams in the industry extended to collaborations across the border.

Reflecting on her music journey, she appreciated opportunities that provided her with growth among them being featured in music videos for artistes such as Lizibo, Starlu, Vee, Eskimos and Wizards.

She has also participated in My African Dream talent search show, where her victory caught the attention of producer and artiste Chef Gustos, who saw her potential as a singer.

“Together, we recorded the song Tsotsi Anthem featuring Amanandos, and that marked the start of my career,” she said.

Her versatility extends beyond singing and she has tried her luck behind the decks as a DJ.

“It has been a long journey and I’m always eager to learn that is why I tried it out in the first place. I fell in love with it,” she said.

She acknowledged that the entertainment industry was not for the faint-hearted, hence the need for one to change with times. ENDS
