Information Services department awards performers

01 Dec 2013

Team spirit can enhance productivity in the workplace and move organisations to achieve greater heights, deputy permanent secretary in the Ministry of State President, Mr Arnold Madikwe has said.

Officiating at the Department of Information Services (DIS) awards ceremony in Gaborone on November 29, Mr Madikwe said rewarding employees did not mean that they should compete, but should be seen to be working as a team.

“As we reward these people, I believe that these rewards should not be seen as creating competition among us but rather be seen as building teams,” he added.

Mr Madikwe said people who had done well and performed beyond their expectations must be recognised as the move will also encourage other employees to work harder.

He further indicated that all employees were to serve the country every day to customers, as this was in line with the the department's vision: Ggovernment and Public Information Reaching Every Citizen Every day by 2016.  “Let the awards we are getting be translated into better service delivery,” he said.

On other issues, Mr Madikwe underscored the shortage of resources which employees must use wisely and deliver quality service.  The wish to create more positions, he said, was shuttered down by insufficient funds due to economic depression.

Mr Madikwe reminded DIS employees that their duty is to inform the public about government policies and programmes, nothing more nothing less.  He further appreciated the department leadership who found it necessary to reward people who performed very well and encouraged them to continuously do the good job.

In his welcome remarks, information services' director, Mr Russ Molosiwa stressed the challenges they faced, which he said made it difficult for them to deliver. He stressed that there was shortage of transport that hampered service delivery especially in remote areas.

Meanwhile Jacobeth Mogotsi, Kebaeditse Baitlotli, Dineo Peloewetse, Othusitse Mogorosi, Nketso Mangadi, Selinah Samson,  Gloria Thitoyamore, Rebecca Katjimune, Bontle Ngwako, Mojaboswa Jabeng, Motlhalefi Selelo, Georginah Morakanyane, Ndulamo Setumbeko, Ntwala Mowa and Nkungano Yuyi were awarded the long service and good conduct having worked between 20 and 34 years.

Mr Bontle Ngwako, driver in Francistown scooped more awards than all employees. Ends
