Flood victims houses complete

28 Nov 2013

Bobirwa Sub-district Council has completed construction of houses for residents whose properties were destroyed by floods in January.

Council chairperson, Mr Ishmael Legwaila told councillors during the council session that 117 houses were completed at a cost of over P5 million. “The beneficiaries are already occupying the houses. The houses were constructed for victims in the hardest hit areas, among them Tsetsebye, Mathathane and Molalatau,” he said.

Mr Legwaila said the sub-district council has also constructed 12 houses in three remote area settlements at a cost of P12 million. He also informed the council that construction of internal roads in Bobonong was behind schedule by four weeks, adding that P18 million has already been spent on the project, out of a total P222 million that has been allocated.

For his part, councilor for Molalatau Mr Nathaniel Moribame expressed concerned that the Bobonong/Molalatau road has developed pot holes despite the fact that there are relevant officers on the ground. “Our roads are in a bad state and this is an embarrassment to the council as it shows that we are incompetent,” he said.

Ipelegeng project coordinator, Mr Tshepho Mogocha also told the council that projects are progressing well in the sub council. He said there are 84 projects that are underway, adding that all of them are on schedule and will be halted on December 6 to allow workers to go and farm, after which work will resume on January 6.
