28 Nov 2013
This year’s Botswana Telecommunications Corporation Limited (BTCL) phonebook cover competition was won by students of Naledi Senior Secondary School.
The three students who stole the hearts of judges are Thabo Matlhabaphiri (form IV), Hellen Mokaleng (form V) and One Moleti, also a (form IV) student. Schools were requested to present an original piece depicting the theme ‘keep in touch,’ which is consistent with the BTC unified brand strategy tagline.
The winners were announced at the school on Tuesday, November 26.
The school won P30 000. The second prize of P15 000 went to Mitchell Greenland of John Mackenzie English Medium Senior Secondary School in Francistown; and the third one of P10 000 to Oaitse Moitebatsi of Francistown Senior Secondary School. Apart from the prize money, the winning piece will be depicted in the 2014 phonebook cover and on the on line edition which can be assessed on www.btcphonebook. co.bw
Speaking at the prize giving ceremony, BTCL general manager (sales) Boitumelo Masoko, said the winners were schools but not individuals, and this was consistent with one of BTCL values of team work, where success of one is success of all. Masoko urged teachers and parents to nurture and encourage artistically gifted children because one could make a living out of art.
She encouraged all stakeholders, parents, teachers and the community to play a meaningful role in nurturing and developing their children so they could realise their full potential. “Supportive parenting and guidance can help instill self-esteem, self believe and confidence in students, allowing them to choose a career path of their choice that will be beneficial to them as individuals and to the nation,” she said. She added that at BTCL, they believe students need to be cherished, appreciated and nurtured. ENDS
