Artisans important development component
28 Nov 2013
High Commissioner of Namibia, Mr Hadino Hishongwa says artisans play an important role in the development of any country.
He said this at the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Ghanzi Brigade and Windhoek Vocational Training Centre recently. Mr Hishongwa noted education and training followed the same path, adding any country should develop human resources.
He noted that Namibia and Botswana were already cooperating in many fields, and education skills development a new phase in the cooperation of the two countries.
He therefore commended the principals of the two institutions and implored other districts in Botswana to link with other vocational centres across the border for assistance. Mr Hashongwa noted that the skills and training to be gained by students would not only benefit the two countries alone, but the region as well.
“The skills can allow our nationals to be employable in the region and beyond,” stated Mr Hishongwa. He noted that this also could develop a slot in the regional market.
However, he implored students to be committed to entrepreneurship so that they not only received training for employment, but were ready to create jobs and be artisans and entrepreneurs in their own right. He urged students to grab the opportunity that the collaboration offered.
Mr Hishongwa said education and new skills could develop a person and the nation especially as Botswana and Namibia were moving towards Visions 2016 and Vision 2030 respectively.
For his part, Ghanzi council chairman Mr Director Tlharese said the cooperation between the two would be of mutual benefit for both institutions. He said it would allow benchmarking as well as improve the quality of what institutions and their graduates offered. ENDS
