BOGOWU wants apolitical public officers

26 Nov 2013

Botswana Government Workers Union (BOGOWU) says it is disturbed by the statements made by other workers organisations leveled against political parties they are not affiliated to, which are intended to de-campaign certain political parties and individuals.

A statement from BOGOWU has reminded their members and all public servants that they had contractual obligations which they had to abide by and according to the new Public Service Act section 5 sub section 5; they were to be apolitical at all times.

“We should try by all means to be apolitical in execution of our daily routines, less we find ourselves swimming in a pool of confusion and conflict a position which we find ourselves in unaware”, it stated.

It further said members of all workers’ organisations belonged to all political parties, hence the need to let everyone enjoy freedom of association without imputation and/or coercion by leaders pretending to act in the best interest of their members whilst furthering their personal gains.

Such action, stated the release, denied constituents the constitutional right to belong to organisations of their choice be it political and/or otherwise. ENDS
