Moralane Primary School teachers have been hailed for undertaking a housing project for a destitute person.

Speaking during the house hand over in Moralane on Thursday, November 22 the Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso congratulated them for being the pioneers of the project and for making a difference in the life of Ms Kgamxhoo Aewedowe and her family.

Ms Tshireletso said through their spirit of humanity, they had fulfilled one of the Vision 2016 pillars of ‘a compassionate, just and caring nation’ and in the same vein, they have positively responded to the President of Botswana’s’ call by securing a dignified house for an individual.

Moralane teachers built a one-roomed house for Ms Aewedowe as part of their community outreach programme at the tune of P16 900, which was acquired through donations from different stakeholders.

Ms Tshireletso said the teachers’ dream was fulfilled. She said it shows that they were committed towards assisting the underprivileged members of the society, saying the fact that they were able to undertake the project within two months shows their desire and zeal to make a difference in the society they work in.

She highlighted that shelter was valued by the Millennium Development Goals as a very critical aspect in the life of a human being, adding that the life of Ms Aewedowe would never be the same as it would change for the better.

She said that the house project would go a long way in improving the life of the beneficiary, saying that this gesture also helps the government achieve its objective of relieving citizens of abject poverty.

Ms Tshireletso also stated that government alone could not be able to provide shelter to every needy person, especially because of the economic downturn, saying government would continue to recognise such gestures of building for the needy.

She said by donating the structure, the teachers have proved to be valuable members of the society and will always be valuable partners of the government. She urged other groups to emulate the teachers of Moralane Primary School. ENDS
