Save Our Souls appeals for help

19 Nov 2013

Save Our Souls (SOS) children`s village national director, Mr Motshware Kitso has called on community members to assist the village.

Speaking at a Christmas celebration at the village in Francistown on November 16, Mr Kitso thanked the community for all the support they had been giving the village.

He added that because of some of the challenges the village faced, they needed the community to help even more. Mr Kitso also urged the business community to help them by providing spaces for some of the students who have graduated in institutions but could not find jobs.

“The involvement of the community, especially business people would be appreciated if they could help in absorbing some of our children,” he said. Mr Kitso further urged the community to emulate the Mpuchane family and some retired women from the community who adopted the village last year.

He said the Mpuchane family requested to assist the village with the celebration of Christmas which saw them celebrating Christmas with the family last year and this was the second Christmas celebration.

Furthermore, he noted that the family had promised the village an annual sponsorship towards celebration of Christmas and they will be open to accept any help from the community with whatever help they can assist with.

He said the assistance from the family is a positive response that assures the attainment of the country`s Vision 2016 pillar of a compassionate just and caring nation. The national director added that the gesture by the family revives the spirit of the residents of the village and helps them forget different challenges they are faced with.

However, he encouraged the children to take their studies seriously, which he explained will better equip them with skills to face the outside world. He encouraged students to consider themselves privileged to have been placed in tender hands of the village`s elders but they should not be relaxed and think everything will always be easy.

Mr Kitso said according to their 2009 research on the challenges faced by the village, graduates who were now staying overseas thanked the village for the love they received but complained of not being equipped with ways of dealing with pain.

He said to avoid such challenges, children have to be courageous and be ready to face any challenge that may face when they have graduated from the village. ENDS
