Bakwena paramount chief, Kgosi Kgari Sechele III has urged Batswana to continue pushing for the attainment of Vision 2016 pillars.
Speaking at the hoisting of the national flag to mark the countdown to Botswana’s 50th anniversary celebrations, Kgosi Kgari III said Batswana must work hard to ensure that the Vision 2016 ideals were attained within the remaining two years.
“Vision 2016 is a long term project that came into being during former President Sir Ketumile Masire’s reign. It is now time for us to self-introspect and introduce new pillars that will bring more development,” he said.
The national flag was hoisted at Molepolole police station under the theme: Botswana First. Kgosi Kgari III said the Botswana First campaign intended to push and communicate an all-encompassing message that would drive the nation towards Vision 2016.
He urged Batswana and all stakeholders to reflect on their failures and achievements in implementation of the Vision 2016 pillars. For her part, the deputy district commissioner for Kweneng District, Ms Ikgopoleng Lekoape said the hoisting of the national flag was symbolic as it marked the countdown to September 2016 when Botswana will be attaining 50 years as an independent country.
Ms Lekoape said the 50th anniversary celebrations called for every Motswana to put Botswana Frst in everything that they did.“We must make sure that Botswana is a success in all development sectors of the economy. We must raise the significance of national symbols like the national flag and make sure it is used as much as possible,” she said.
Councillor Poloko Motlhobogwa of Sebele ward thanked Sergeant Leonard Ralekadiba of Gaborone police station for hoisting the flag and urged Batswana to work together towards achieving Vision 2016.
“No man is an island and we all need to help each other. If others are left behind we won’t be able to achieve the vision,” she said. Ends
