Nation endorses call to house the needy
18 Nov 2013
President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama has been described as a visionary leader whose tenure is characterised by benevolent deeds of dignifying Batswana especially the poor.
Speaking during an event to hand over a house built by the Village Extension Team, Spar Botswana and some individual community members, Tsabong businessman, Mr Tshipietsile Mothelesi said it was President Khama’s initiative to build houses for the less privileged members of the society.
He pointed out that by building houses for the poor, the community was heeding the President’s call as well as fulfilling the pillar of a compassionate, just and caring nation in the process.
Mr Mothelesi lashed out at the local media for accusing President Khama of failing to attend international assignments, saying the President delegated his ministers while busy traversing the country to appreciate the hardships that Batswana faced.
The businessman said despite the lower salaries that public servants got, he supported President Khama in his commitment to prioritise uplifting the lives of Batswana.
The beneficiary, Ms Lenah Manyoro and her family were officially handed a two bed-roomed house that was started in March this year. Factors such as shortage of material and water affected the construction period which was supposed to take six months. ENDS
