Palapye schools perform poorly in the mocks
14 Nov 2013
Palapye sub-region chief education officer, Mr Otukile Kedikilwe says performance by schools in Palapye is not impressive.
Briefing heads of departments during a meeting, Mr Kedikilwe said the education ministry administered mock examinations to standard seven’s, form three’s and form fives prior to them writing their final examination but, it had since turned out that performance of schools in Palapye was far below the targeted 80 per cent.
He said Lotsane Senior School scored 11 per cent pass rate for students who attained 5cs or better in the BGCSE mock examination.
For junior secondary schools, he said performance stood at 53 per cent whilst standard 7s scored 72 per cent.He said this was a cause for concern because it can have a serious impact on the final examination results.
He called on heads of department to play a role in addressing the problem of poor performance, adding that they too were parents as such should play a significant role in the education of their children. He said teachers alone could not bring about good results without the support of stakeholders. ends
