Kweneng asseses sevices to settlements

14 Nov 2013

The Kweneng District full council resolved at its sitting of August 27 to September 7, 2012 to commission a task team to undertake a preliminary assessment on provision of services and/ or recognition thereof of selected unrecognised settlements to enable the district to forward an informed request to the relevant structures for further assessment.

Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso told Parliament that the task team comprising of councillors, council staff officers from the district commissioner’s office and Land Board consulted the leadership and communities of 28 affected settlements in Kweneng District.

Ms Tshireletso said structures were consulted among them Strategic Planning and Plan Management Committee, District Land Use Planning Unit (DLUPU), District Development Committee (DDC), Kweneng District Council Executive Committee, Land Board and full Council.

The assistant minister said Tribal Administration as a member of the Strategic Planning and Plan Management Committee (SPMC) had representation during the discussions. However, she said Kgosi Kgolo was a member of the meeting, which made the final decision on the matter.

Ms Tshireletso said she was satisfied that the four local authorities including Members of Parliament were thoroughly consulted as all are members of the consultative forum and Kgosi Kgolo is an ex- officio member of full council.

She said the full council consequently noted and adopted the report which was submitted to the ministry of Local Government and Rural Development for consideration. MP for Kweneng East, Major General Moeng Pheto had asked the assistant minister what process was followed before the issuance of the Presidential Directive Cab Memo 18 (DP) 2013 presented to the Kweneng District Council Full Council meeting held on the mentioned date.

He also wanted to know which stakeholders were consulted and by who and whether Bakwena Kgosi Kgolo and his senior Chief representatives were involved. The MP further asked the assistant minister if she was satisfied that the four local authorities were consulted including members of Parliament for all the areas affected. ENDS
