Kavimba hosts 16 days of activism event

14 Nov 2013

Chobe will commemorate this year’s 16 days of activism on violence against women and children at Kavimba.

The acting senior gender affairs officer, Mr Kabelo Tsiang said Chobe might commemorate the launch on November 26, a day after the national commemoration. Speaking at a consultative meeting with the committee ahead of the event, Mr Tsiang said this year’s event would run from November 25 to December 10.  Activities for this year would include a women’s retreat in Kasane, which will run from November 13 - 15.

The retreat was a partnership between gender affairs department and Bible Life ministries. “We are expecting this to be a platform for women to discuss issues that affect them,” he said.

There would also be the usual annual 16 days commemoration and a house to house campaign on December 3-4. The campaign will advocate for awareness on the multifaceted intersection of gender based violence and militarism, while highlighting the connection between the struggle for economic and social rights and ending gender based violence.

The house- to -house campaign will be conducted in Lesoma. Mr Tsiang said the next commemoration would be planned by the entire gender committee and not just the department as was the case this year. Ends
