“Since 2006, each year, high performing students from public schools in the vicinity of Broadhurst Primary School are assessed and accorded scholarship to study at the multicultural international school from Standard Four to Seven,” stated Minister of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services, Mr Kefentse Mzwinila during the school’s 40th anniversary on Saturday.
A total of 14 children have benefited, and been assisted with tuition, transport allowance, annual school trips and sets of summer and winter school uniform among others.
The first recipients of the scholarship went on to make it to the Top Achievers Awards and to earn a scholarship for study abroad.
Through the programme, three pupils, each from Notwane, Tsholofelo and Boikhutso primary schools are assessed and one successful pupil awarded the primary scholarship, said Mr Mzwinila.
He said such was a noble gesture from the private sector, to continuously play a role in transforming the educational landscape and also meet government’s commitment on education halfway.
Mr Mzwinila said education was a key requirement for economic diversification and sustainability, human development and an ideal way to transform from resource to knowledgeable based economy.
He said the commitment shown by Broadhurst Primary School to education was an investment toward the Reset Agenda.
“The learning environment at the school has over the years created a conducive environment of learning and experience in which every child reached and expanded their potential and the courage to make a difference in future,” said Mr Mzwinila.
Mr Mzwinila commended the school for staying focused and doing the best possible in the interest of learners’ academic performance despite disruption by COVID-19 that led to postponement and cancellation of some of the school calendar activities.
School head, Ms Angela Warwick said Broadhurst Primary School grew from humble beginnings to become a strong academic interactive environment for learners to develop individual skills, and for personal growth.
She said this was due to the undivided support the school had received from Teachers Parents Association for the past 40 years. ENDS
