Okavango sub-district councillors have applauded government for hosting beauty pageants in the Rural Area Dwellers Programme settlements.
Commenting on the sub-council chairman’s speech recently, Cllr Motlamedi Moqwa said the initiative had afforded the youth from rural areas such as Xaixai opportunity to go as far as Gaborone to interact and appreciate the rest of the country. He said the gesture also gave them opportunity to learn about other cultures and share theirs with other Batswana.
Cllr Saoqho Kotongwa of Seronga also appreciated the project saying that the programme made people in rural areas to have dignity and believe in themselves. Other councillors also said the beauty pageants also exposed their villages and made them known to other Batswana.
On other issues, the sub-council council chairperson, councillor Mauano also said that 15 poverty eradication fashion design beneficiaries were trained in Etsha 6 last month and noted that 8 of them attended the Chanoga Pitso in March this year.
He also mentioned that quotations for livestock procurement were evaluated and awarded at four settlements being Gudigwa, Qangwa, Xaixai and Chukumuchu. However, he noted that quotations from Ghani did not meet requirements while those from Tobera settlements did not respond to the quotation.Ends
