Poverty eradication programme doing well

The poverty eradication programme is doing well in Moshupa Sub-district with 322 projects in operation while 175 are at various stages of establishment, says sub-district chairman, Mr Lentswe Mosanako.

Briefing councillors during the on-going council session in Moshupa, Mr Mosanako said despite the progress, the sub-district was experiencing problems in processing LIMID and poverty eradication payments because of the introduction of Government Accounting and Budget System (GABS.)

Mr Mosanako, however, said IT department was working on the problem and hoped that the matter would be resolved soon. Concerning Social and Community Development, the chairman indicated that in response to Children’s Act, some villages had formed village child protection committees in Lotlhakane West, Ranaka, Moshupa North and Moshupa Central.

He said it was important for villages to form child protection committees to address child related child issues. Mr Mosanako also expressed concern over some Village Development Committees (VDC) which he said were surrounded by internal conflicts.

He appealed to councillors to guide the committees to the right direction. “Let us all play our role to build effective developmental coordination structures in our sub-district”. Regarding the business statutes in the district, Mr Mosanako said businesses trading in Moshupa and extension villages have shown a low level of compliance because of offences contravening the Trade Act, 2003 and Industrial Act, 2008 recorded from August 2013 up to October 2013.

Mr Mosanako stated that during the monitoring, it transpired that there were small scales Manufacturing Enterprises which were operating without licenses such as brick molding and sorghum milling businesses.

In addition, Mr Mosanako said they were still experiencing problems with regards to the Liquor Regulations, 2008 because some liquor outlets do not comply  with the stipulated times. He said to address the situation Trade and Industrial Committee intends to conduct Kgotla meetings in order to sensitise the business community and the public. ENDS
