03 Nov 2013
Ghanzi Senior Secondary School teachers and students have donated groceries worth P885 to a Gumare family.
Speaking at the donation event on November 2, the headmaster of the school, Mr Batshidi Tsae said they saw it fit to give back to the the village as they had always worked with Okavango families, while their students were studying there before Shakawe Senior Secondary School was constructed.
He said giving back to the community had always been valued in the Setswana culture citing as an example dikgomo tsa mafisa where, even if a family did not have a cow they benefitted from taking care of other families cattle.
Mr Tsae said they raised funds for the grocery through civic days at school and teachers and staff contributions. The gesture, he said, was part of their efforts to fulfill the vision2016 pillar of a compassionate, just and caring nation.
Expressing her gratitude, Ms Reshando Ketshabile said the donation showed that people from Ghanzi had love particularly that the long distance from Ghanzi and Gumare did not discourage them.
She said the donation made it possible for her family to enjoy the meals like everyone, something which she was grateful for. The headmaster of Okavango Junior Secondary School Mr Ekubine Mmusinyane thanked the school for such a compassionate spirit.
Ghanzi Senior Secondary School staff also had the opportunity to play football with Okavango Junior Secondary School as another way of showing love. Ends
