BOTESSA introduces dance sport

Botswana Tertiary Students Sports Association (BOTESSA) national dance sport coordinator, Mildred Ganetsang says the association has introduced dance as one of the competitive sports this year.
In an interview after the dance competitions held in Francistown College of Vocational and Technical Education (FCTVE) over the weekend, Ganetsang said BOTESSA wanted to produce dance athletes who could compete internationally.
“We want to be in a position to feed the national dance team with athletes who can go for international competitions,” she said. Ganetsang commended institutions that sent athletes for the competitions and noted that the turnout of athletes was impressive and surpassed the BOTESSA expectation.
She explained that dance attire was expensive and due to the financial meltdown, the association was not expecting such a good turnout.
“I think if the examinations were not on-going in some institutions, the turnout could bigger,” she said. Meanwhile, Jwaneng Technical College and ABM College each scooped position one in three categories while Tonota College of Education, University of Botswana (UB) and Odi College of Creative Arts each scooped position one in one category.
The categories were Adult Standard levels one, two and three, All ladies, Adult Level one, two, three and four and Adult Novice. ENDS
