Ministry appreciates Flying Mission Services efforts

28 Oct 2013

Flying Mission Services (FMS), an academy for aircraft maintenance training, has been commended for its contribution to education and training.

Deputy permanent secretary in the Ministry of Education and Skills Development, Mr Mogotsa Kewagamang said during the graduation ceremony for FMS students in Gaborone Friday, October 25 that the academy’s contribution to education would enable Botswana to accomplish its mission of becoming a regional centre of excellence in education.

He said Botswana wanted to be recognised internationally as a preferred destination for international students, scholars and trainees through a vibrant  education sector that will contribute to economic diversification and sustainable growth.

Mr Kewagamang said the aircraft maintenance course was unique and offered specific training required for economic diversification. He noted that aviation was still relatively new in the country and that Botswana was in good stead to offer training to Southern African Development Community (SADC) member states.

Furthermore, he said the course was also relevant in the facilitation of skills development with national requirements by supporting initiatives of other sectors of the economy, through the provision of appropriate skills.

Founder of the school and patron, Mr Malcolm McArthur encouraged graduates to remain focused when executing duties and to avoid mistakes. A total of 11 students graduated with diplomas. FMS offers training in the specialised trade of aircraft maintenance. ENDS
