Find ways of storing water- Mokaila

27 Oct 2013

Stakeholders should strategise to find ways of storing water as it would help improve water conservation in the country, Minister of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources, Mr Kitso Mokaila has said.

During a tour of water projects in the Okavango Sub-district on October 24, he said institutions such as schools needed to have water storage back up to avoid disappointments. The minister said the move to conserve water would demonstrate responsibility and team spirit, adding that the need for having own tanks and stand-by generators at schools or health facilities would help everyone safeguard water and avoid unnecessary inconvenience.

At the Shakawe Water Treatment plant, the Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) manager, Mr Moitseemang Momphe, explained that the plant needed to be upgraded and already plans were afoot towards achieving that.

The minister also had the opportunity to address his ministry staff in the sub-district and encouraged the spirit of team work. He said cooperation did not mean that people had to like one another but had to work together for the best interest of the organisation, adding that they should be a winning team and make sure that as workers they met the set objectives.

Minister Mokaila also advised them to refrain from coming late to work and also urged them not to take long to respond or take action when dealing with customers.

However, the minister noted that he was aware of the challenges the staff faced such as shortage of accommodation. Mr Mokaila said the ministry was working on finding funds to build staff houses as it continued to be a challenge in villages. ENDS
