27 Oct 2013
Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) chief executive officer, Mr Godfrey Mudanga, has called for stakeholder participation in education.
Speaking during the 10th anniversary of Sekuku Primary School in Tonota on October 25, Mr Mudanga said challenges should not hinder teachers from fulfilling their duties of delivering education to students.
He encouraged teachers to reflect on the remarkable results of being the best in Primary School Leaving Examinations in 2012 in the sub-district despite the challenges the school faced.
The CEO explained that students in today’s world were susceptible to information that might affect their future and advised that parents should know their children’s associates. He said because of the challenges that students encountered in schools and the world around them, all relevant stakeholders should be actively involved in children`s education.
“Parents, it is high time we responded to this calling, children are a fertile ground awaiting planting and not all that is planted in their life is good,” he stressed. He explained that students are also vulnerable to influences such as internet, which he noted needs the role of parents to help them choose what to follow on the social networks.
Mr Mudanga urged students to take their studies seriously, which he noted will make a difference in their lives and give them the privilege to live their desired lives.
For her part, the school head, Ms Kgakgamatso Chilume said the journey from the start of the school has not been an easy one because the challenges they faced outweighed all the opportunities, adding however that as a team they managed to prevail. ENDS
