Ledibela Primary School head teacher, Ms Lydia Moncho has warned standard seven students against peer pressure when moving to junior secondary education.
Speaking at Ledibela Primary School standard seven farewell and prize giving ceremony in Hukuntsi, Ms Moncho said standard sevens needed to be aware of the danger that a new environment posed and be prepared for the challenges that lay ahead of them.
She warned the students to do away with drugs and alcohol as they will ruin their lives. She cautioned the students against vandalising school properties as it is very costly to the government when making repairs.
She also urged the students to take their school work very seriously as they were the future leaders of this country. For his part, Lehutshelo Junior Secondary School guidance and counselling teacher, Mr Benson Serame said he was concerned that parents had no interest in their children`s school work.
He encouraged parents to partake in students’ school work. He also encouraged parents to help their children choose careers so that they make the right choices.
Students were asked to bench mark from their elders who succeeded and achieved in life through education. Furthermore, the area MP, Mr Phillip Khwae decried the poor education results in Kgalagadi, saying there were mostly due to lack of parent involvement in their children’s education.
He stated that parents were reluctant in motivating their children on matters pertaining to education and discipline and this rather makes the children to be heavily dependant on teachers as is the current situation.
He said parents should regard education as an important instrument towards poverty eradication and hence, they should encourage them to be fully committed to their studies. Mr Khwae applauded teachers in Kgalagadi North for their dedication towards improving the education sector in the region. ENDS
