Shelter gives dignity- official

Serowe Sub-council vice chairperson, Mr Bernard Kenosi says shelter is one of the most important assets one can have.
Mr Kenosi said this during the official commencement of the building of houses under the Rural Development Programme (RDP) for three residents of Malatswae village, recently.
He said the three beneficiaries would have their dignity enhanced and appreciated government’s efforts in providing Batswana with food, water as well as shelter, which are very important for every individual’s survival.
He encouraged those engaged to build the houses to use quality materials and finish them on time, more so that winter was fast approaching.
Mr Kenosi also urged the beneficiaries to partake during the construction of their houses and not leave everything to the council.
He implored the Malatswae youth to assist in providing their parents with shelter, by, for example, starting crowdfunding to help one another build houses.
Malatswae Village Development Committee (VDC) chairperson, Mr Tshimologo Agapile said they were appreciative of the initiative and wished it could be done more frequently, because lack of decent shelter in the village was worrying.
Mr Agapile encouraged the builders to work hard to meet the deadline, adding that he was happy about the cooperation between the council and the Malatswae VDC.
The Serowe Administrative Authority (SAA) Principal Technical Officer, Mr Gift Botlhale said he expected the project to run smoothly, as the plots were already cleared.
He said the contractors would submit quotations for purchasing building materials to council for approval, so there should not be any delays.
Mr Botlhale pleaded with the builders to note the inspections done by the council at every step of the building.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Ms Goitseone Botsomelo said they were overjoyed and appreciated that the council saw it fit to give them decent shelter.
She promised that they would take care of the houses and also do what they could to help in the construction.
Ms Botsomelo said they would do everything in their power to connect electricity to their houses, as the council would not do that for them.
The two-bedrooms, combined sitting and kitchen as well as one bathroom houses are expected to be complete by mid-June this year. Ends
