Revenue collection challenge at Ghanzi East Sub-district

17 Mar 2019

Ghanzi East Sub-district Council chairperson, Mr Dichaba Thupe says revenue collection is a challenge in his jurisdiction.

Speaking during a Ghanzi East Sub-district Council session recently, Mr Thupe said they failed to meet their revenue collection target as they only achieved 32.58 per cent.

He explained that they targeted to collect P3 597 250 but managed to collect  P1 171 984  as at the end of February 2019 .

Mr Thupe, who conceded that they failed to collect revenue from advertising and sign boards as planned, was of the view that illegal boards denied the sub council income and warned that law enforcement on illegal billboards was underway.

He said the enforcement notice had been issued calling for removal of illegal sign boards within the township, and that the owners of the sign boards heeded their call.

The exercise, he said, was to continue along the roads, especially the A3 road from Kuke to the Ghanzi-Kgalagadi district boundary.

The sub-council chairperson stated that they had experienced challenges with the implementation of the 2017/18 constituency projects.

He said they have only started nine of the 14 projects.

Mr Thupe said implementation of the 2018/2019 projects has been slow due to the fact that most of the projects were a continuation of the 2017/18 projects which were still being implemented.

He said the 2019/20 project memorandum has been signed by the Member of Parliament and was to be logged in the ministry log. ENDS
