For many years, BAA has been run by volunteers with the help of Botswana National Sports Commission (BNSC) employees.
BAA vice president-technical, Kenneth Kikwe confirmed in an interview that government had given then the permission to establish a secretariat, through BNSC.
However, he said they would only be able to employ the general manager, who would be responsible for finance and administrative operations, sports development officer- administration and assistant secretary.
Meanwhile, according to a statement sent to the affliates, the assoaication says it will employ athe chief executive officer once the financials get better.
It states that BNSC has offered to assist with all the necessary expertise in filling the positions.
It further states that the development calls for the amendment of the constitution to incorporate the general manager.
“You will note that the constitution only has provision for the chief executive officer position.
The federation will provide an update as to when the special general meeting would be held in order to finalise the constitution.” Also, it says the draft constitution has been forwarded to IAAF for review with the agreed amendment.
The BAA is currently waiting for recommendations from the IAAF compliance team regarding alignment with the IAAF the Constitution, which is expected during the first week of March 2019. ENDS
