21 Jul 2013

Botswana Ambassador to Namibia, Mr Duke Lefhoko has donated a tent, 100 chairs and 100 blankets to residents of Mokgenene Village in the Shoshong constituency.

Presenting the donation at the village kgotla recently, Mr Lefhoko said he saw a need to contribute significantly to the village because it was far from services.

He said the tent and chairs would be used in ceremonies such as funerals, weddings and other celebrations.

Mr Lefhoko requested that the tent be used only in funerals for free, while it can also be used to generate income to be used in the development of the village in other occasions.

The 100 blankets were donated to destitute persons, orphans and the elderly of the village who were identified through the Social and Community Development (S&CD) welfare office, to keep them, particularly during the cold weather. Mahalapye sub-council secretary, Mr Mozondic Moswete thanked Mr Lefhoko and his team for donating to Mokgenene village.

Mr Moswete assured Mr Lefhoko that the tent will be used in Mahalapye sub-district at a fee to generate some income that will help Mokgenene VDC to improve the village rather than depending only on housing.

He also indicated that the donation would also assist in reducing costs incurred by the S&CD office which has a responsible for the needy or socially disadvantaged persons.

The area councillor, Mr David Merementsi thanked the ambassador for his efforts towards realisation of the long term vision of a compassionate, just and caring nation. Thus, Mr Merementsi urged others to follow suit regardless of their status in the community saying a small donation would make a difference in the lives of many. He requested the VDC to safe guard the tent.

Ambassador Lefhoko was accompanied by his friends from Namibia as well as a representative of Afrimark Company (Botswana). ENDS
