Councils engage East Construction at P298m

Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development has told Parliament that out of the 16 local authorities, only four, being North East, Kweneng, Central and Chobe district councils had awarded Estate Construction Botswana projects at a total cost of P298m from 2007 to date.
Speaking in Parliament on Friday, Ms Tshireletso said Kweneng District Council had awarded the company the project to construct Molepolole bus terminus and associated works at a contract sum of P155 million.
She said the project started in January 2013 and was completed in December 2014.
The assistant minister said North East District Council had awarded the same company the construction of Masunga Infrastructure Phase III, which was awarded in May 2008 at a cost of P100 million.
She said at the Central District Council, Estate Construction was awarded a tender for the re-gravelling of Mahalapye-Kodibeleng road in 2006 at a cost of P 2.7 million.
In Chobe, Ms Tshireletso said the last project that was awarded to the company was for the construction of the Kasane taxi and bus rank, which was constructed from September 2008 to November 2009, at a cost of P33 million.
Regarding Bango Trading, the assistant minister said Chobe, Francistown and Gaborone local authorities had engaged the company at a total cost of P6.4 million.
She said Francistown had engaged the company for the supply of road maintenance products and road building materials at a sum of P703 000, while Chobe and Gaborone had engaged it for the resealing and shoulder repairs of roads in Kasane, Plateau and Kazungula at a sum of P3.9 million and the reconstruction and major repairs of city roads at a sum of P2 million respectively.
Regarding Bothakga Burrow, she said Kweneng had engaged the company for consultancy services for the construction of Thamaga physical infrastructure at a cost of P3.9 million, while Chobe had engaged it at a cost of P771 000 to execute landfill Phase II consultancy and supervision.
She stated that Gaborone City Council had engaged the company to repair Segoditshane Bridge scourging across Limpopo road at a contract sum of P3.5 million, and that Central District Council had engaged it for consultancy services for pre-contract, supervision and post-construction service for construction of Mahalapye-Kudumatse road at a cost of P7.9 million, as well as the consultancy services for the construction of the Mosetse-Tutume road at a cost of P8.8 million.
Ms Tshireletso said Lobatse Town Council had engaged the company for consultancy services for the supervision of the construction infrastructure at Airstrip, Plantation, in-fills of Boswelatlou, Pitikwe, Tsopeng and Motswedi at a tender value f P8 million.
North West District Council engaged Bothakga Burrow for project management at a cost of P7.7 million for the construction and supervision for rehabilitation of Shakawe Water Treatment Plant, while Southern District had engaged it for consultancy services for design and tender documentation of Pitsane Land Servicing at a tender value of P4.3 million.
Ms Tshireletso said Gaborone City Council engaged Cul De Sec company for the backlog eradication project Package D, while Sowa Town Council had engaged it for the construction of street lighting at SHHA plots at a cost of P4.6 million.
MP Haskings Nkaigwa of Gaborone North had asked the minister to state the value of government tenders awarded to the four companies in the ministry from 2007 to date. BOPA
