Sub-district completes reception class project

16 May 2017

The Department of Education has completed a P1.3 million project of building reception class outdoor play in all the 25 primary schools in the Letlhakeng Sub-district.

Officially opening the Letlhakeng Sub Council meeting on Monday, the sub council chairperson, Cllr Tlotlo Batlhophi said this financial year the department also intends to embark on a project of procuring science equipment and apparatus,

CAPA learning materials and breakthrough learning materials which had been budgeted for P550 000.

He also said the department had plans to improve sports facilities in schools in the sub district with more attention on unpopular sporting codes such as cricket and chess.

Cllr Batlhophi said all these activities were geared towards improving sports and inculcating the spirit of sportsmanship among learners.

Meanwhile, Cllr Batlhophi informed councillors that Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) had been bowsing water to Khudumelapye since the borehole that supplied the village collapsed in January.

He said the bowsing was done to relief the current leased private borehole.

He added that the collapsed borehole had also been rehabilitated and was due to start operating this month. Khudumelapye is one of the villages in the sub district that has been experiencing water shortage for a long time.

On issues of health, Cllr Batlhophi said most of the results from food and water samples collected from trading stores in the area showed contamination, which indicated that there was compromised hygiene in businesses.

“On addressing these, the office has identified an officer who will be looking into compliance monitoring through conducting routine inspections. Samples will continue to be collected and failing businesses will be sanctioned,” he said.

Cllr Batlhophi also expressed concern on the prevalence of measles in the sub district, saying it remained high.

“Botswana National Veterinary Laboratory disease investigation team is to carry a research on the matter. Mortality cases were recorded at Diphuduhudu extension area on a fenced farm, suspecting parveta poisoning,” he said.

He said public education through avenues such as kgotla meetings had been scheduled to sensitise farmers on measures of control as well as about compliance towards the European Union market requirements. ENDS
