Statistics Botswana donates 10 computers
06 Mar 2017
Computers open doors to better communication, experiences and research opportunities from the world over, says Statistics Botswana manager communication, documentation and dissemination, Ms Lillian Setimela.
Ms Setimela said this when handing over 10 computers to Tewane Primary School at Tewane recently. She said computers were an integral part of life in the 21st century and they only become useful where there was computer literacy, adding that basic computer skills contributed in connecting people with others in all parts of the world.
Therefore, she explained that increasing access to computers and computer literacy in schools should not only be an undertaking that was left to government only.
She noted that public private partnerships must be encouraged in this regard to ensure that the young people, the future of this country benefit from the existence of computer technology.
Ms Setimela said it was crucial that the donation of these computers should be coupled with training of teachers in using the equipment so that they could use them optimally in the classroom.
She encouraged companies to make a positive difference in public schools, libraries and recreation centres by donating computers as this would help in improving children’s education.
At Statistics Botswana, she said they strived to build and maintain a Statistics Botswana, which was a good corporate citizen.
As such, she said they seek to ensure that they give back to the community in many different ways.
She noted that they had developed a corporate responsibility programme, of which Tewane Primary School was among the very first beneficiaries.
She urged Tewane Primary School to use the computers for e-learning, research work, manage and protect them accordingly so that they remain useful to them for many years to come.
For his part, Tewane Primary School head, Mr Goitsemang Gabaikanngwe applauded Statistics Botswana for the donation, as the computers would help them improve their results. Mr Gabaikanngwe promised that they would put the computers into good use and protect them. ENDS
