Permanent secretary in the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Research, Science and Technology, Dr Theophilus Mooko says the ministry is committed to providing quality tertiary education to the nation.
Dr Mooko said this at the first ever Botswana Accountancy College (BAC) open day in Francistown, where the institution introduced a new campus to the stakeholders on March 3.
“It is our commitment to provide quality education to the citizens as education is the foundation of human capital and skills development. It is through knowledge that our citizenry can be empowered and equipped with competencies to participate in the economic development of our country,” he said.
He added that this would contribute to increased productivity, thereby contributing to job creativity and further commented that as institutions continue to train high numbers of qualified graduates the aim is to produce entrepreneurs and graduates who can compete globally.
Dr Mooko further acknowledged that exporting skilled labour to work in other countries could be beneficial in that it would provide opportunities for citizens to gain more knowledge and experience in other markets.
Dr Mooko said when they return home, they would be able to impart the new skills and expertise with other citizens and as a result contribute to the diversification and growth of the economy as advocated for in the vision 2036.
Francistown City Council Deputy Mayor, Cllr Godisang Radisigo applauded BAC for providing quality education to the nation since 1996, adding that the college would improve Francistown youths’ lives through the various business courses they have on offer.
Mr Radisigo added that BAC would leave a lasting legacy in Francistown, which would transform the city into a world class city.
BAC’s executive director, Ms Serty Leburu informed stakeholders that ‘BAC is a school that is set up to contribute towards the human capital development in Botswana and beyond.’
“With over two decades in operation, we strive to produce market ready graduates who have the necessary skills and expertise to contribute to employment creation,” she said.
Ms Leburu stated that by setting up their own enterprises through their innovative ideas, graduates could create jobs for others or at best impart skills and competencies back to the economic industry. ENDS
