Botswana Defence Force (BDF) recruits, over the weekend, donated 10 computers and two printers to Lesoma Primary School.
Lt Atamelang Ramakoba said they decided to donate the computers to the school after realising that it had 226 students against two computers at their disposal.
“This is not the first time we have donated computers to a primary school in the Chobe District.
We have done this before and our previous beneficiaries include Pandamatenga and Kazungula,” he said.
He added that BDF's mandate was not restricted to defending and protecting the nation alone, but they also existed to extend a helping hand whenever necessary.
He confirmed that the latest group of officer recruits to come out of the renowned Pandamatenga Training Camp was the last as training would now be done at a different training camp in a different district.
Council secretary for Chobe District Council, Ms Rachel Jeremiah, thanked BDF saying the gesture was going to improve educational standards in the school.
Lesoma Primary School is already synonymous with excellence achieving more than 80 per cent for Primary School Leaving Exams (PSLE), which Ms Jeremiah said was unusual with schools in remote areas.
“The computers will help the students in their learning to research and be a part of the global village as the world is already ahead in this area,” she noted.
Kgosi Lesoma Lesoma thanked the soldiers and highlighted that since the school was opened in 1982, it was synonymous with good performance.
In the last PSLE results, Lesoma Primary School led the district with 84 per cent rating.ENDS
