New album Morena Utlwa, is now out. It is a perfect summation of Dikabelo Selwane a.k.a Dekay’s steadfast talent and desire to create messages in the form of art.

During an interview with the singer, Dekay said his love for music began at a tender age. “I warmly remember my music journey when I used to work for rewards. I later became a singer and actor during my secondary studies,” he said. On the album, Dekay pulls on the expertise of the producer,  Kuseri Kumakili who has produced Tight and the likes of Tumza.

He also made use of reinforcements from his friends, Swagga Lady and Lorato Busang to  give definition and expression to the music on some of his tracks. The album opens with its lighter, more fun vibe, yet maintaining its message with Morena Utlwa with its sing-along chorus, and hand-clapping groove, featuring Lorato Busang.

He takes listeners through a worship and praise experience and shows his individuality with the inspiring and yet enervating, bass-driven title track two which he describes as straight from his heart and mind.

Similarly, track two, he is calling my name ohh, casts its eyes towards the abducted girls by Boko Haram in Nigeria as it continues with its lyrics, O re swetse sefapaanong, “madi a gago a tshologile sefapaanong.”

Its coolest element is the talkbox intro, which is becoming popular in modern artistic gospel arena, unravelling the kwasa kwasa melody and beats. Following on from the lengthy, harmony breakdown-in-slow-motion comes the entertaining yet a praise song, titled, In the name of Jesus.

The song informs us that we can rest in peace when we allow God’s plan to be fulfilled in our lives, declaring the holy spirit to fall upon us. The musically intoxicating song seems to have been conceived from the spirit that reigns over him.

It comes as some relief mostly for youth who are enticed by the rumbatic fast music. He eases up on the praise throttle on Let it rain as his last song, which is an praising serenade of encouragement regarding God’s undying and unhindered devotion towards his children.

The song reiterates his theory and informs us that we can rest in peace when we allow Jesus in our lives. “This song speaks salvation, healing and blessing,” he said. ENDS
