23 Mar 2016
Stanbic Bank Botswana has launched the first mobile branch in the market.
The mobile branch comes as part of the bank’s drive to allow easy access and convenience to banking services whilst also allowing for greater financial inclusion and customer experience.
Speaking at the launch , the banks head of customer channels-personal and business banking, Mr Calistas Chijoro said the mobile branch could be used as a fully operational branch offering cash deposits, cash withdrawals, cheque deposits and encashment, account enquiries, account opening, transfers and issuing of cards.
“It can also be used as a standalone ATM offering cash withdrawals and instant money redemption. The mobile branch will provide the bank with business continuity capability as well as exhibit the bank’s products and services at national events such as trade shows and various exhibitions. It is also the realisation of providing customers with better banking anywhere,” Mr Chijoro said.
He said their intention was to better the lives of customers by taking the bank to the people and providing customers with a platform to transact wherever and anytime.
“The mobile branch comes at a time when there is a growing need to offer convenient banking service to customers. We want to satisfy that need and we believe that providing good service is all about being where customers want us, taking the services to the people and interacting with them to strengthen those relationships. We want to touch the lives of our customers,” he said.
On mobile branch security, Mr Chijoro said the glass in front of tellers and metal panels of the vehicle were bullet proof.
“People should also note that when the mobile branch is in transit, it will not have cash in it and we have engaged people with the proper expertise in transporting cash to do that job,” he explained.
Asked about how much the bank had invested on the mobile branch, Mr Chijoro said “it is quite an investment and we are proud to be the first bank to have come up with such an initiative, and if the need arises to have one and two more mobile branches, if it makes business sense we will do it.”
Furthermore, he explained that the mobile branch did not have a fixed schedule of travel around the country, but would be availed at places or gatherings where people would need to access banking services. Ends
