President Khama gives to Dikgonnye

28 Feb 2016

President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama donated blankets, chairs, solar lamps and Bibles to the village of Dikgonnye in Mochudi West constituency on Friday February 26.

President Khama said he came as a response to Kgosi Ishmael Rakgati who visited him at his office and requested him to visit his village just like he has been visiting other villages around them being Oodi, Artesia, Rasesa and others.

Dr Khama said due to his busy schedule, sometimes he was not able to visit each and every village but whenever he got a chance he made use of it. The President also promised the residents to build two houses for the needy people in the village. This was in response to the area councillor Ms Reginah Rakgati who asked the President to help address accommodation needs for the needy in Dikgonnye.

When welcoming the President and his entourage, Kgosi Rakgati said there were some issues of concern that made him visit the President at his office.

He said the first concern was the 23 km gravel road connecting the village to A1 High way road near Rasesa  that was in a bad state.

Kgosi Rakgati said the road continued to steal lives of people as every month someone lost a life on that road.

Further he said the  situation of that road was even made worse by Kgatleng District Council tipper trucks that collected gravel near their village even after it had been graded leaving the road bumpy and therefore dangerous for use.

Another issue raised by Kgosi Rakgati was the market place which they built for themselves through Poverty Eradication Programme some years ago but was not well utilised.

“All we do is to refurbish it after every two years but the youth who have been trained on different trades like sewing, leather working and others are not benefiting from it,” said kgosi Rakgati.

Kgosi Rakgati also said they had shortage of office accommodation as many government departments had been housed in his offices.

Kgosi Rakgati also requested President Khama to help provide a vehicle to the police officers in his village as they dealt with many incidences of cattle theft happening mostly in their border with Kweneng District.

He also said he was thankful for the electricity and water connections in the village.

Responding to Kgosi Rakgati’s requests, President Khama said he would take his requests to the relevant ministries and his private secretary would give him the responses as soon as possible. ENDS
