Tsabong school opens March 8

28 Feb 2016

Parents in Tsabong have been urged to take responsibility of their children’s education by working closely with teachers.

The Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development,  Mr Moiseraela Goya, said this during a kgotla meeting in Tsabong on Friday February 26

The purpose of the meeting was to address stakeholders on general issues pertaining to education as well as matters connected to Tsabong Unified Secondary School.

The assistant minister told the gathering that phase one of the project was almost done and Form IV students were expected to resume classes on March 8.

He expressed optimism that by the set date, all logistics would be in order so that the school business could resume.

Mr Goya said 259 students would be admitted and practical subjects such as commerce and agriculture will be offered while design and technology as well as computer studies will follow later because the laboratories were not yet finished.

For their part, parents expressed happiness that finally their wish had been granted as they had a problem of sending their children to far places, something that made it hard for them to attend PTA meetings and monitor their children’s progress.

One of the village elders, Mr Fish Ntau said children did not respect elders including teachers hence the poor results.

He said this wass exacerbated by the fact that nowadays parents were scared to discipline their children because they feared to contravene the law.

The other parent, Mr Tirelo Gobewang said until parents decide to cooperate with teachers by stopping to defend their children, there would never be a positive outcome from schools. ENDS
