Theft in Pitsane worrisome

28 Oct 2015

Theft in Pitsane has left a bitter taste in Pitsane residents, Coordinator of Bomme ba Ngwao Cultural group Ms Dipuo Motshegare has said. Ms Motshegare said during a women Pitso held in Pitsane  that no one feels safe from the youth in the community.

“Bomme ke thari ya sechaba, but girls are now syndicates in the crimes in the community that terrorise people. What kind of mothers will they be?”  she asked.

She said some girls even go to the extent of terminating their pregnancies and throwing the babies away :; “Is that the kind of mother our nation needs?” said Ms Motshegare.

According to Ms Motshegare she found it fit to have a pitso to address the pressing issues that the girl child in her community was getting involved in and to also address the unbecoming behavior that has mushroomed among the youth.

Ms Motshegare says culture erosion is a major contribution to such social ills saying “reprimanding or advising a child that is not yours nowadays seems like a crime even to their own parents. These days a child has the guts to say “ga o mme” and their mother can even tell you to leave their child alone and stay away from her family affairs.”

Vice chairperson of Bomme ba Ngwao cultural group Ms  Mmapula Banantwa said extra marital affairs have significantly increased cases of HIV/ AIDS and abuse and therefore urged women to be women of substance and respect.

“Parents should take the forefront in disciplining their children, batsadi kgalemelang bana, le itse fa le ojwa le sale metsi,” she said.

Ms Banantwa said some parents were also involved in crime with their children as they do not take the first step of reporting their children at the kgotla or police if they know they have stolen something, but instead wanted  to protect them.

She also raised a concern on parents who send their under age children to buy traditional and homebrewed beer such as khadi, and also cigarettes, saying this teaches children that alcohol and drug abuse is normal.

The use of alcohol and drugs in the community has escalated, she said.  Ends
