Gumare faces doctors shortage
20 Sep 2015
The Parliamentary Committee on Health and HIV/AIDS has learnt that Gumare Primary Hospital is faced with shortage of doctors. Speaking at a meeting with the committee recently, the hospital matron, Ms Dintelo Moetse, said the public health facility functioned without a chief medical officer and a public health specialist.
She added that a senior medical officer would resign end of this month.
She revealed that doctors had been resigning from the facility since June last year. She highlighted that the hospital did not have a public relations officer (PRO).
The chairperson of the committee and Member of Parliament (MP) for Mochudi West, Mr Gilbert Mangole, said they examined reports of government ministries and make recommendations, hence touring the hospital and meeting with management and staff.
He said they assessed service delivery in hospitals and interacted with staff to learn about their welfare and challenges.
The staff asked government to consider renovating the hospital.
Staff working in laboratories and the supplies department indicated that they did not have enough room to accommodate the high number of patients who came from places such as Habu and Gudigwa.
Giving a vote of thanks, one of the committee members and Okavango MP, Mr Bagalatia Arone said he realised that the staff was upset about the situation at the hospital and promised them immediate feedback. He asked them to work as a team. Ends
