Molefe advises public officers
20 Sep 2015
Member of Parliament for Mahalapye West, Mr Joseph Molefe, has advised public officers in the Mahalapye Sub-district to deliver government initiatives on time. Mr Molefe said this during a meeting with the public servants in Mahalapye recently.
He said officers should be hands on and improve on their service delivery, adding that they should adhere to the set standards.
He noted that they should also take government initiatives to the relevant people especially social relief programmes. He said a lot of people complained about either late payments from the government or not getting their promised payments therefore he appealed to them to work hard in curbing such incidents.
Mr Molefe also appealed to the members of staff from the health sector to improve service delivery in order to minimise complaints from the public by assisting them effectively and on time.
On other issues, the MP advised them to make their offices more conducive to customers, adding that Mahalapye was a big village that lagged behind in terms of investors.
He said they should help encourage investors come forth rather than to scare them away, by improving their service delivery whether at water or electricity utilities or those who award business licenses.
MP Molefe concurred that shortage of transport was a nationa-wide problem.
However, he said government was doing everything possible to rectify that because some departments could not even monitor projects and do payments on time. But he applauded officers for working hard to serve the community since Mahalapye Sub-district served four constituencies.
He said despite officers having challenges of their own such as shortage of accommodation and manpower in offices, they did the best they could do.
He said earlier this year, officers decried of the many challenges amongst them shortage of accommodation, maintenance of infrastructure and decentralisation of funds and assured them that their concerns were forwarded to the relevant ministries and were being attended to.
For his part, Mahalapye Sub-district councillor, Mr Godimo Garegope, said he was glad the MP had come to see and interact with them so as to know of their challenges.
Mr Garegope said in Mahalapye, they had a backlog of the poverty eradication projects, adding that they had a number of those waiting to be assessed or trained for and also those waiting to be given funds.
However, he explained that they had pledged that by September 30, all these projects would be given the attention they needed. He noted that officers from the Ministry of Agriculture were all over the constituencies to make sure that they addressed this backlog. Ends
