Sankoyo Tshwaragano Management Trust chairperson, Haku Galesenngwe, says there is need to engage experts to workshop the team’s executive committee on issues of corporate governance to address confusion on how to run the club.
Galesenngwe said they had a discussion with players and they realided that even players were not familiar with roles of the executive committee members in a football club.
This came after players wrote a letter to the trust management in which it was alleged they passed a motion of no confidence on the executive committee. They also wanted the executive committee to attend all their training sessions.
Galesenngwe said they had also realised that there were some members of the committee who negatively influenced players. He said in their discussions, players requested that some members of the executive committee be dropped as they were failing the team. He said they had already identified people with the necessary expertise and would be approached on the matter.
In addition he confirmed that there had been a vacuum between the committee and board of trustees and hoped that the workshop would assist to enhance their working relationship. He noted that all these were signs which indicate that management and players lack knowledge on how football is run hence the need to engage experts in the field.
“The trust had been funding the team, now we want to work closely with the team and appreciate what is happening because at the end of the day the community wants us to account for the funds used,” he said.
Galesenngwe noted that the team’s efforts to secure sponsors were still not bearing positive results despite their efforts to talk to potential sponsors. On other issues, the trust chairman revealed that they find it difficult to assist the team financially because currently the trust is not generating income.
He said they managed to sustain the team through pledges from some companies such as Orbit Sanitation, Maduo Lodge, Okavango Safaris just to mention a few. He said the team’s future seems bleak despite its sterling performance and wished a messiah could come to rescue it.
Galesenngwe revealed that the trust has to pop out over P30 000 for away games noting that if they could not find sponsors, the team might fail to honour some of their matches if not relegated.
