Gumare senior chief representative, Kgosi Diteko Salepito has complained about the wayward behaviour by mostly, unemployed youth, some of whom have quit school.
Speaking in an interview recently, Kgosi Diteko said crime was affecting community development in a negative way.
He added that house breakings, stock theft and murder cases, which mostly happened during nights after parties and drinking sprees were a major concern. Kgosi Salepito further explained that most of the crime was committed under the influence of alcohol and drugs. He also mentioned that some of the youth carried dangerous weapons.
He said that some of the victims of crime within the village went missing and were never found while others were found dead after a long period of time. Kgosi Salepito also complained about the stock theft mentioning that some of the animals are sold to butcheries but never reported to the police.
He also mentioned that the police were trying hard to fight crime although they were challenged by shortage of officers, transport and other resources.
He pointed out that he is working hand in hand with parents through kgotla meetings to discipline their children and discourage young girls from alcohol and drugs since they were the common victims.
Meanwhile Kgosi Salepito expressed concern about the drought affecting the community due to this year’s poor rainfall and the foot and mouth disease. He pleaded with government to keep an eye on the drought situation, increase police officers and to provide transport to enable crime fighting activities. ENDS
