Khama meets Gabon Congo envoys

President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama received letters of credence from ambassadors of Gabon and Congo at Office of the President on Thursday (February 5).
Ambassador of Congo, Ms Marie-Therese Avemeka said in an interview that his meeting with President Khama was the beginning of an effective cooperation between the two countries, as she was the first appointee to Botswana.
She said she discussed with President Khama avenues of cooperation that would include trade, tourism, culture and sport. She further said her country was open to further explore bilateral cooperation with Botswana in otherr sectors.
She said trade between the two countries would allow people of the Congo and Botswana to do business together. Ms Avemeka further encouraged Botswana to attend activities of the ministry of youth in August in her country in order to get to know each other.
Ambassador for Gabon, Ms Aichatou Aoudou said Gabon and Botswana had a lot of similarities and that a lot could be done to further strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries.
Furthermore, she said Botswana and Gabon could share expertise in environmental conservation as her country was rich with deep forests. “We can share expertise in protection of forests or environment,” she said.
Ms Sanni Aoudou further said her country would learn a lot from Botswana in the field on mineral resources, especially diamonds. The two ambassadors from Congo and Gabon reside in Namibia and Pretoria respectively. ENDS
