The Presidential Charity Trust has donated food hampers to different charitable organisations.
Senior Private Secretary to the President, Brigadier George Tlhalerwa handed over the items to the organisations in Gaborone on February 4.
In his address, Brigadier Tlhalerwa said the trust only served as a bridge between underprivileged people and the organisations extending a helping hand to them.
“We are linking those who have given these goods to President Khama to provide to the most vulnerable in the society,” he added. Some of the commodities, he said, were donated by charitable or humanitarian individuals, organisations and the business community.
He said they had been handing over the donation to different charitable organisations since the beginning of December 2014 up to as early as three weeks ago.
“What you see here are some of the extensions that the people in our community are saying to the President give to those that have been identified. But we ourselves have identified you as a hand that is stretching to those in our communities that deserve this. We are only facilitating, but the good people, the Samaritans or the philanthropists are the people who have donated this,” he said.
He commended charitable organisations for the roles that they played, saying their efforts made a difference in the communities. He also thanked all the donors for having availed the goods so that they could be given to deserving people.
“We know what you are doing and everybody knows. And today we are just helping you do what you stand to do. This is your day and we should be thanking you for the efforts that you are making and we are only facilitating to make your efforts better,” he said.
“We need not to be thanked or congratulated, because we are just a bridge. There are people there who felt that they should provide these commodities and there is yourselves who are hands on, who are on the ground, who have identified the needy and are continuing to do that and I think our support to you is only based on your remarkable efforts and I unreservedly thank you for what you are doing,” he added.
On behalf of other recipients, the coordinator of AAP Home Based Care and Family Life Programme, Ms Martha Rampa, thanked God for having enabled President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama and all the donors to extended a helping hand to those in need.
“I want to express gratitude to the donors, because blessed is the hand that giveth, than the one that receives. And because they give to those who don’t have, God will continually add in their lives and their businesses, because God knows that when they are given they also give to those who are in need,” she added.
The beneficiaries were; AAP Home Based Care and Family Life Programme, Rankoromane/Camphill, The Dream Centre, Motswedi Rehabilitation Centre, Pudulogong Rehabilitation Centre, Boikhutsong, Mochudi Resource Centre for the Blind and Bokamoso Helping Hand Committee for Destitute Students. ENDS
