Kgaphamadi school seeks to improve results
27 Jan 2015
Kgaphamadi Primary School head teacher, Mr Zibo Tabona, says his school has set a target of 15 per cent increase on the pass rate per class every year to improve the quality of education and results.
Mr Tabona stated this at the recent parents and teachers’ association meeting to update parents about the 2014 Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) results and the state of affairs at the school.
Explaining the 15 per cent criteria, Mr Tabona said it had helped them in the past to improve their school’s results and put them where they were today.
Kgaphamadi is the best performing in Ghanzi District with a pass rate of 87 per cent in last year’s primary school leaving examination. In 2012 and 2013, the school also performed well with an 80 and 82 percent pass rate at PSLE results respectively.
The good results Mr Tabona noted, are achieved through cooperation of teachers with parents. He encouraged parents to continue their spirit of taking part in their children’s education. Mr Tabona said their desire as the management of the school is to be among the top performers in the country; and this he said they can only be achieved through complete support from parents in the education of the children.
Although their target is to put in 15 percent every year as improvement per class, he stated that some classes reach average while others still do not reach the target and others do surpass it. He cited that 2014 overall pass rate for his school was at 64 percent, with only one class which could not surpass the 50 percent overall pass. Mr Tabona applauded parents for their support and putting their children’s education first.
Although the school is doing well, Mr Tabona noted that they face challenges like other schools especially in terms of accommodation for students. He said they have shortage of classroom blocks resulting in some classes accommodated outside and shifting weekly for classes. This, he said was a result of increased intake this year.
But he stated that there is construction of some classroom blocks to ease the shortage. He added that another ablution block is under construction.
Kgaphamadi primary school has a total of 21 teachers and four Tirelo Setshaba participants working as assistant teachers. It also has a Special Education Unit. ENDS
