Francistown West MP, Mr Ignatius Moswaane has told resident of Tati Town that the Societies Act is to be amended to address the worrisome mushrooming of churches in the country.

Speaking in a kgotla meeting on January 13, Mr Moswaane said they had realised that many churches belonged to foreigners, and that Batswana were being robbed by contributing more money into the church.

On other issues, Mr Moswaane said the Ward Development Committee (VDC) was overwhelmed with burning issues on Ipelegeng. He said the government created Ipelegeng to alleviate hunger but the way people were treating it had caused more conflicts.

Mr Moswaane urged residents to take into consideration and follow the rules and regulations of the Ipelegeng programme. Concerning WDC issues in their area, Tati Town chairperson Ms Naledi Mohaladi requested for roads, streets lights and culverts, adding that during rainy seasons, more roads develop potholes.

Regarding streets lights, she said they were no longer working since last year and that had caused thieves to hide in the bush. She also said Tati River had turned into a dumping side and urged the council to take responsibility.

When responding to some of the issues raised by the WDC chairperson, Mr Moswaane said Parliament had extended the National Development Plan (NDP) 10 by a year.
He said 2015 was a year of development, therefore urged residents to benchmark at Monarch Federation on how to raise funds.

Mr Moswaane also appealed to poverty eradication beneficiaries to advertise their products using reasonable prizes, so that at the end of the day they could have pocket money rather than keeping them in their homes.

The MP further said there was a resource centre at his office to assist his residents to achieve their projects plans free of charge.

He decried alcohol abuse among the youth. ENDS
