Minister unhappy with service centre delay
11 Jan 2015
The Member of Parliament for Serowe south, Dr Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi has expressed concern at the delay to establish a service centre at Mogatsapoo in her constituency.
Dr Venson-Moitoi expressed her concern during kgotla meetings she addressed at Tshetlhong and Bikwe recently.
The service centre, she said, was delayed because some public servants were of the view that the area was remote.
She said the officers further argued that there was no electricity and no schools that their children could attend. However, she said she was still of the view that the service centre should be built at the intended area.
She pleaded with health authorities to provide mobile clinics at the lands during ploughing seasons to help farmers.
The minister was also against the sale of a house belonging to the Ministry of Agriculture at Bikwe, concurring with residents that the house could be used as a storeroom for yields and other agricultural activities.
Earlier on, the vice secretary of Bikwe farmers committee, Ms Gakenosi Rapinyane informed the MP that there were rumors that the Ministry of Agriculture wanted to sell the house that was built to accommodate officers. Dr Venson-Moitoi also addressed Mokolo residents in Serowe where she called for proportional allocation of Ipelegeng posts. She said posts distributed to constituencies should be proportionate to their population as opposed to allocating each constituency equal posts.
Dr Venson-Moitoi said her constituency should be allocated more posts than others because it had more people.
She added that her constituency had ploughing fields that were owned by people from other constituencies. Residents decried shortage of water in their area and poor road conditions. ENDS
