LIMID projects show progress

11 Jan 2015

A Livestock Management and Infrastructure Development (LIMID) officer from the Department of Animal Health and Production in Tutume sub-district, Ms Ontiretse Sechele has said there are 162 projects that have been implemented in Shashe West constituency.

She gave the report during the Member of Parliament (MP) of Shashe West Mr Fidelis Molao’s meeting various departments in Tutume recently.

Ms Sechele explained that there are 41 Tswana chicken projects, 105 small stock, nine fodder processors, two crushes and five water developments.

She stated that there are other new projects that have been approved and they are waiting to be implemented.

These new projects include 124 small stock, with Nshakashogwe leading with 45 small stock projects and there are also 13 Tswana chicken projects.

She explained that there has not been much improvement in the area of Tswana chicken due to the outbreak of Newcastle disease, noting that they are also faced with transport shortage, which makes it difficult for them to monitor projects.

Ms Sechele also complained about shortage of staff as two constituencies are assigned a single LIMID officer.

On poverty eradication programmes in the constituency, the Principal Home Economics Officer in the Department of Social and Community Development (S&CD), Ms Omphile Sello said her department has covered 44 projects in fashion and design, hair salon, bakery and food catering.

She stated that they have 16 new projects, namely beauty therapy, pop-corns, hot-dogs, basketry, pottery, carpentry, welding, tyre service, jumping castles, three legged pots, plumbing, music band, upholstery, cleaning service, shoes mending and bead work.

Ms Sello said that packages for all beneficiaries who are still awaiting them were long ordered in November 2014 and the office received them in December 2014. She said the packages are scheduled to be delivered between January 12 and January 23 this year.

MP Molao had asked representatives from different departments to briefly share with him on what is taking place in their department and if there are any problems in order to come up with ways in which they can be solved.

He also encouraged representatives to attend kgotla meetings as he has realized that there are some villages that feel neglected because they are never visited by any departments.  ENDS
